This is exactly what happened in a noble building transformed into twelve modern apartments, where the beating heart is now a fully electric heating plant powered by GSI heat pumps and intelligent remote management technologies.
This project represents more than just an architectural renovation — it’s a true technological evolution, where every component works in synergy to deliver comfort, energy savings, and operational continuity.
A Historic Building, New Energy Needs
The project was born out of the need to convert a historic palace into a contemporary residential complex consisting of 12 apartments.
The existing gas heating system was outdated, inefficient, and no longer suited to the comfort expectations of a modern home. The overall renovation of the building provided the perfect opportunity to move away from fossil fuels and adopt a forward-looking, full-electric approach focused on efficiency.
Through internal insulation, upgraded windows, and a low-temperature distribution system, the building’s energy demand was significantly reduced — creating the ideal conditions for the introduction of a high-efficiency heat pump system.
The Choice of GSI: The Technological Core of the System
The new system was designed around two GSI AURA DUE heat pumps installed in cascade. This configuration allows for strategic redundancy — a crucial feature in a high-end residential context. In the event of maintenance or malfunction, one unit can continue operating independently, ensuring uninterrupted service. Redundancy here isn’t just a technical backup; it’s a key element in guaranteeing peace of mind for the residents. Complementing the AURA DUE units is the GSI MAGIS system, which enables energy recovery for the production of domestic hot water during the summer months — essentially turning residual energy into a valuable resource and maximizing the system’s overall efficiency.
Customized Comfort: A Radiant Heating and Ducted Climate System
The entire building is served by a fully radiant system: ceiling panels provide heating on the main two floors, while underfloor heating is used on the top floor to preserve the aesthetic of the exposed ceilings. Each apartment is also equipped with a ducted dehumidification system, ensuring a healthy and well-regulated indoor climate. But what truly sets this installation apart is its precision temperature control for each individual living unit.
Thanks to the GSI TH TUNE system, residents can manage their climate locally or remotely via a user-friendly web app — enjoying intuitive, precise control over their comfort. A real leap forward in smart living.
Smart Energy: Photovoltaics, AIER, and Digital Control
Efficiency is further enhanced through integration with a photovoltaic system that communicates directly with the heat pumps via the GSI AIER platform. This constant dialogue between energy production and consumption allows the system to optimize self-consumption, making the most of locally generated energy for heating, cooling, and domestic hot water production. Beyond controlling the cascade operation of the heat pumps, the entire system is monitored by an intelligent remote control platform that manages parameters, diagnostics, optimization, and real-time monitoring. A true smart thermal power station, capable of responding dynamically to the building’s needs and automatically adjusting to ensure maximum efficiency and reliability.
