How we transformed the heating system of a 1970s home into an efficient, worry-free solution
From a 1970s system to a smart home: comfort and efficiency with MEVO, KISS, and AIER — no need to replace the radiators.
When we were asked to intervene in a 1970s home, renovated but still relying on an outdated heating system, we knew the challenge was real. It wasn’t just about replacing a boiler, but about breathing new life into an entire syste, while keeping the existing tubular radiators, which were still perfectly functional.
The home, located in Switzerland, had been divided into two zones: day and night. The windows were new, the insulation excellent, and a photovoltaic system had recently been installed. The request was clear: constant comfort, easy management, always-available hot water, zoned control, and above all, no complications.
As GSI, a company specialized in integrated solutions for thermal and energy efficiency, we proposed a tailor-made system: MEVO + KISS + AIER.
Advanced technology, without the complexity
The solution we implemented is based on three GSI technologies that work in perfect synergy:
- MEVO, the high-efficiency heat pump that can also operate with high-temperature systems like those using tubular radiators.
- KISS, the centralized control system that simplifies the user interface and allows for managing all system functions with just a few taps.
- AIER, the module that detects surplus energy produced by the photovoltaic system and intelligently repurposes it to heat water or store it in thermal form.
This combination transforms an outdated system into a cutting-edge setup, able to adapt to external conditions, optimize consumption, and reduce waste.
Two zones, two types of comfort
One of the main requirements was to manage the two zones separately: the day zone, more frequently used, and the night zone, with different needs. With KISS, it was possible to program different on/off times and temperatures for each zone, even based on the time of day.
For example:
- Day zone: active from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.
- Night zone: heated only early in the morning and in the evening, when it’s really needed.
The system also adjusts based on the outside weather. If the temperature rises suddenly, the system automatically reduces the supply temperature—no manual input needed.
The result? Constant, personalized comfort without waste.
Savings you can feel (on your bill)
Thanks to the MEVO heat pump and the smart control of KISS, the home now uses less energy to deliver the same (or even greater) comfort. In many cases, with a similar setup, it’s possible to achieve energy savings of 30% to 50% compared to a traditional gas system. And with the help of AIER, which utilizes solar surplus, solar self-consumption can increase up to 70%.
The benefit isn’t just economic—it’s environmental: less waste, lower CO₂ emissions, and greater energy independence.
Hot water, always—but only when needed
Another key point was domestic hot water production. With the KISS system, you can schedule time slots for DHW production, or activate it only when a certain temperature is reached. In short: no waste, just the hot water you need, when you need it.
Smartphone control, wherever you are
KISS isn’t just simple: it’s designed for everyone to use. Through the WebApp, the homeowner can view system parameters, check consumption, schedules, and temperatures, and make adjustments in real time. All data is stored in the cloud for 13 months, making it easy to analyze energy trends and improve over time.
TH Home: intelligent comfort, room by room
To fine-tune the regulation, we installed TH Home, our environmental sensors that precisely detect temperature and humidity. This helps ensure more stable comfort and reduces unnecessary fluctuations, improving the overall sense of well-being in the home.

Without modifying the existing system, without replacing the radiators, and without invasive construction work, we brought this home into a new era.
